What is the difference between dvd r dl and dvd r dl

I recently went to the local computer store and purchased more dvds yet accidently grabbed the dvd-r dl discs. I was curious, what exactly is the difference between these two? From what I've read the -r are newer and therefore don't have consistent playback on certain players; likely my Xbox included. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated! I hope this question hasn't been asked a thousand times, but I couldn't find a good answer anywhere! Ergo they are useless for XBox where the layer break is changed resulting in L0 layer 1 not being fully utilised.

That is exactly the answer I couldn't find! Looks like I'll have to try to return the discs; good thing I didn't open them already. Whereas if you are reading a double sided layer, every time you finish reading one page, you will need to physically turn the monitor around and read the back of your monitor assuming your monitor has two screen, directly opposite of each other Oh, c'mon for the heck of illustration How does a DVD player achieve this? Of course your DVD disc won't refresh, but remember the "semi translucent 2nd layer of dye"?

By increasing the wave-length in other words strengthening the output or power of the laser, penetrating the semi translucent layer to read data off the back layer of the recording media.

Sounds pretty exciting doesn't it? It gives higher storage capacity. Pioneer developed this in DVD-R provides broad playback compatibility more with old players. It is more like a CD-R, but it has more storage capacity. DVD-R is also known as a digital versatile disc recordable. A single-sided, single-layer disc has a storage capacity of 4.
