Generally a custom barrel or bull barrel is going to last longer than the average barrel. That is why we drive on the parkway and park in the driveway also. Greenbug said:. To me a heavy barrel is thicker than a normal a2 or military profile, whatever that may be.

A bull barrel has no taper at all, same diameter from breech to muzzle. DirectDrive said:. Yep, that's how I understand it. An HBAR is heavy when compared to a pencil or gov't profile as stated earlier in the thread. This can be true for conventional, bolt gun barrels.

For an AR bull barrel there are usually 3 "steps" as described a couple of posts back. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads B. Reloading equipment and supplies.

I'm torn between getting a RRA midlength heavy barrel and the M4 profile. I also have a 3 sporter with a shotgun steel buttplate with a 30 inch 14 pound bull barrel that weighs 15 pounds.

My other is a standard 3 sporter with shotgun steel buttplate with a 34 inch 25 pound bull barrel weighs 24 pounds. The original my 25 pounder was modeled after had a 36 inch barrel with steel shotgun buttplate that really did weigh 25 pounds. An estimate for the 25 pound bull barrel based on my actual analysis of existing rifles says the 25 pound bull barrel is worth about a pound for every 2 inches in length.

So, a 36 inch barrel on a standard rifle will give a total weight of about 25 pounds, a 34 inch barrel on a standard rifle will give a total weight of about 24 pounds, a 32 inch barrel on a standard rifle will give a weight of about 23 pounds, and a 30 inch barrel on a standard rifle will give a total weight of about 22 pounds. The heaviest orginal hunting sharps I ever saw was 22 pounds and it had a 30 inch barrel. If you add extras like a pewter nosecap, pistol grip, special sights or scope then you can expect my estimates to be on the light side.

If I wanted the heaviest possible rifle for hunting I would stick to the 25 pound 30 inch bull barrel and probably the shotgun butt because they look better with that huge barrel. If I wanted the best handling heavy weight rifle I would go with the 14 pound bull barrel which is my current favorite. I had gotten possession of a big "50" gun early in the fight, and was making considerable noise with it.

My Sporter 3 with 30 inch 3 weight 16lb. My Sporter 3 with 30 inch 2 weight 14lb. My Sporter 1 with 34" pound 4 weight? And my Sporter 3 with 30 inch 2 weight 14lb.
